Our Tutors are Texas Certified Teachers or Qualified Specialists in their field of expertise So many acronyms concerning my child's testing, what do they mean? ACT - ACT is America's most widely accepted college entrance exam. It assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. PSAT - The PSAT is a preliminary version of the SAT. The PSAT invovles Math, critical reading, and writing skills (identifying and correcting grammatical errors). The PSAT serves as an invaluable practice opportunity for the SAT. SAT - Scholastic Aptitude Test. Nearly every college in America accepts the SAT or Subject Tests as a part of its admissions process. TAKS - Texas Assessment of Knowledge and skills. TAKS is comprise of the state-mandated assessment of students in Social Studies at grades 8 and 10, as well as an Exit Level assessment required for graduation. THEA - Texas Higher Education Assessment. Its purpose is to assess the reading, mathematics, and writing skills that entering freshman-level students should have if they are to perform effectively in undergraduate certificate or degree programs in Texas public colleges or universities.
